Game Review: Reine des fleurs

Original Japanese Title:
Translation: Reine des fleurs (Queen of Flowers)

Okay, so I’m playing a bit of catch-up (again). I started this game pretty much right after I finished CxM but never reviewed it so…here’s the review! I’ve since played 3 MORE games after Reine so assuming my motivation holds, I intend to review those as well. Damn, I procrastinate worse now than I did when I was in school LOL.

Back to the actual game, I started playing it because Reine is infamous for the 40ish bad ends (similar to CxM) so I decided to play it to get it out of the way. I went into this game with extremely low expectations so I’m not sure if that influenced my opinion at all, but this (mostly unspoiler) review will contain my usual commentary on the different aspects of the game while not really giving away actual events.

3rd Year Blog Anniversary

Hi everyone! (o´▽`o)ノ

I’m not sure why WordPress is informing me that today is my 3rd year anniversary for registering with WordPress when it was on May 6th the last two years, but in any case, my blog’s basically been around for three years! Thank you to all my followers, new and old alike.

I feel like this might end up being a longer post than I’m expecting so I’m going to put more under the cut just to be safe.

Game Review: Collar x Malice

Collar x Malice
Japanese: カラーxマリス
“Everyone has an invisible collar attached.”

Surprise double post! I really didn’t need to post them at the same time but I just decided it was something I wanted to do. Since I didn’t start making the posts directly after finishing the games like I usually do, it was like I was playing catch-up so it somehow felt more satisfying to post them at the same time.

Despite being one of the games I was really interested in from 2016, I didn’t actually start playing it until last month. I started it while on my trip in Japan and finished it up when I got back home.

This is going to be another non-spoiler post.

Game Review: Kenka Bancho Otome

喧嘩番長 乙女 スクリーンショット (1)
Original Japanese Title:
喧嘩番長 乙女
Romanized: Kenka Bancho(u) Otome
Translation: Badass Rumble, Otome Version
(Yeah, I’m just going to leave t
he original localized title for “Kenka Bancho” since it’s part of the series)

I hear the anime just came out for this game! Haven’t watched it yet, but I guess the timing of this review is pretty good. I actually wasn’t planning on writing one but I decided to get off my lazy butt and just do it lol.

Fun fact: I played almost the whole game while I was on my trip in Japan. It seems to have been a good choice to try and get myself back into otome gaming with. I’m already playing my third game for this year, which if you look at my previous track record, is actually a lot of games so far.

If you’re in the mood for a cute game, this is definitely a good one to pick up! Review will be non-spoiler but I talk a lot about the game system in some detail.

Game Review: Haitaka no Psychedelica

Original Japanese Title:
Romanized: Haitaka no Psychedelica
Translation: Psychedelica of the AA Nisus (Eurasian Sparrowhawk)

This was definitely my most anticipated game for 2016 so I’m very happy I finally got to play it. Writing another non-spoiler review but I will have hidden (in white text) spoiler thoughts at the end of the post like in my Kokuchou review.

I found it difficult to not compare Haitaka to Kokuchou so most of my review commentary will include a comparison.

Game Review: Moujuutachi to Ohime-sama

Japanese Title: 猛獣たちとお姫様
Romanization: Moujuutachi to Ohime-sama
Translation: Beast and Princess

These shorter reviews seem to be working better for me right now so I think I’ll keep to this style for a while. This game was one of the games I was really anticipating for this year: a spin-off of Moujuutsukai to Ouji-sama (Beastmaster and Prince).

This will be a mostly non-spoiler review, but if I have spoiler thoughts, I’ll say explicitly when they come up.

Game Review: Binary Star

binary star banner

Original Japanese: バイナリースター
English Translation: Binary Star

Everyone who follows me on twitter is probably really confused that I posted this now since I finished playing it weeks (months?) ago. I actually started playing this around the end of 2014, but things just kept coming up so I didn’t end up getting to finish it until this year because I just kept…taking breaks from it somehow. This happened around 5 times+, which is dumb because I honestly like this game a lot. On top of not playing the game consecutively, I also didn’t write the review right away (bad, bad idea) so it got even more lagged. I was originally going to do a more detailed description of plot but it just didn’t end up happening because I wasn’t focused and now I don’t have the drive or the freshness of the game to do it anymore. Therefore, I  decided that it was best to make a shorter post rather than not post something about it at all.

This is mostly a non-spoiler review. I introduce the plot premise but will not go into details about the characters and what happens in the routes/game (although I do give a template the plot generally follows in the first section so if you want no real plot info then just skip the first section).

Game Review: Period:Cube

mainOriginal Japanese Title: ピリオドキューブ ~鳥籠のアマデウス~
(Partially) Romanized: Period:Cube ~Torikago no Amadeus~
Translation: Period:Cube ~Amadeus in a Birdcage~

Since my resolution to try to play more of my games and whittle down my black hole backlog, I came up with a new strategy: any time I start a game, I need to play it a little every day until I finish it. This would be to make sure that I not only finish a game, but I also finish it in a more timely manner. It seems to have worked decently well because the game took me about a week and half to play and well..I’m writing this review, aren’t I?

This is going to be a spoiler review but you can skip down to the Non-spoiler section if you want the general commentary about the game as a whole. I didn’t mean to make the plot descriptions as detailed as they came out so for all you guys wanting the read the Non-spoiler part…I’m sorry, you have a lot of scrolling to do.

2nd Year Blog Anniversary

I just got informed by WordPress that today marks my blog’s 2nd anniversary (◕‿◕)! I can’t believe it’s been around that long.

Having said that, I would like to apologize by how inactive I’ve been lately. I glanced at the amount of reviews I’ve written since last year and the number of otome games I’ve played and…the count for both is atrociously low. I didn’t count precisely but I’m pretty sure Hana Awase KU-hen and Kokuchou were the only full game reviews I completed (>m<). I’ve been so inactive in this community that I almost didn’t log on today and would’ve completely missed my blog’s anniversary ooops (⌒_⌒;). When I get into things, I fall in head first, but I also get distracted easily (mostly by other hobbies that take all my attention). This past year was a really good example of how much this happens.

On the plus side, I’ve started to be more active in the sense that I’m actually using my Twitter! If you’re too shy to leave a comment on here either because it just kind of sticks around forever or you have more general questions not related to any of my blog posts, feel free to chat with me on there o( ❛ᴗ❛ )o!

Speaking of Twitter, since I tend to tweet pictures of items I receive in the mail when I get them, unless there’s a really good reason, I will no longer do unboxing posts . My photo editing program is apparently going to stop existing soon too so just as well.

Since I’m on the topic of blog changes, I feel that this blog anniversary calls for some resolutions.

Once I’ve finished the Amnesia World reviews (yes, I will finish that eventually), I will try to stick to a shorter style of reviewing in order to intimidate myself less so I can try to post more often. It’s not like I make really long, detailed reviews anyway but I just thought I’d throw that out there.

I have several started games and also have many unopened/unplayed other games so my backlog has become a black hole. In order to dent my collection, my plan is to alternate between starting new games and finishing up old ones to try and keep my interest up. I will still pick and choose which ones I review. This decision will be based on a mixture of personal interest and also how many other bloggers have played or reviewed games I bought. I don’t currently take requests, but if anyone is interested in me reviewing games that you noticed I pre-ordered/am planning to play, I’ll try to take that into account as well.

I didn’t actually intend on this post coming out so long but it somehow happened. I notice that I managed to gain some new followers within the last year despite my snail-paced reviewing. Thank you to everyone for sticking with me and for everyone who gave this blog a try. I can’t guarantee I’ll be super active this year, but I’ll make an effort to get things done instead of sitting on them forever like I usually do.

Thanks again, guys. You’re the best! ヽ(>∀<☆)ノ

Game Review: Kokuchou no Psychedelica

2016-03-07-204533Original Japanese Title: 黒蝶のサイケデリカ
Romanized: Kokuchou no Psychedelica
Translation: Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly

This is going to be a non-spoiler review (except for some CGs. There are definitely CGs in here), minus a section at the end which you can skip if you want to avoid spoilers. This is the first otome game I’ve played in a while so I decided to review it even though I hadn’t had the intention of doing so initially.

A lot of other bloggers did a really extensive and fantastic job of doing more detailed reviews revealing the plot so I’m just going to do a general review on how everything unfolded and how the playthrough went for people interested in the game and wanting to know more about it before they decide whether they want to play it or not.
