Hi everyone! (o´▽`o)ﾉ
I’m not sure why WordPress is informing me that today is my 3rd year anniversary for registering with WordPress when it was on May 6th the last two years, but in any case, my blog’s basically been around for three years! Thank you to all my followers, new and old alike.
I feel like this might end up being a longer post than I’m expecting so I’m going to put more under the cut just to be safe.
Title: Collar x Malice
“Everyone has an invisible collar attached.”
Surprise double post! I really didn’t need to post them at the same time but I just decided it was something I wanted to do. Since I didn’t start making the posts directly after finishing the games like I usually do, it was like I was playing catch-up so it somehow felt more satisfying to post them at the same time.
Despite being one of the games I was really interested in from 2016, I didn’t actually start playing it until last month. I started it while on my trip in Japan and finished it up when I got back home.
This is going to be another non-spoiler post.
Original Japanese Title: 喧嘩番長 乙女
Romanized: Kenka Bancho(u) Otome
Translation: Badass Rumble, Otome Version
(Yeah, I’m just going to leave the original localized title for “Kenka Bancho” since it’s part of the series)
I hear the anime just came out for this game! Haven’t watched it yet, but I guess the timing of this review is pretty good. I actually wasn’t planning on writing one but I decided to get off my lazy butt and just do it lol.
Fun fact: I played almost the whole game while I was on my trip in Japan. It seems to have been a good choice to try and get myself back into otome gaming with. I’m already playing my third game for this year, which if you look at my previous track record, is actually a lot of games so far.
If you’re in the mood for a cute game, this is definitely a good one to pick up! Review will be non-spoiler but I talk a lot about the game system in some detail.
Original Japanese Title: 灰鷹のサイケデリカ
Romanized: Haitaka no Psychedelica
Translation: Psychedelica of the AA Nisus (Eurasian Sparrowhawk)
This was definitely my most anticipated game for 2016 so I’m very happy I finally got to play it. Writing another non-spoiler review but I will have hidden (in white text) spoiler thoughts at the end of the post like in my Kokuchou review.
I found it difficult to not compare Haitaka to Kokuchou so most of my review commentary will include a comparison.
Japanese Title: 猛獣たちとお姫様
Romanization: Moujuutachi to Ohime-sama
Translation: Beast and Princess
These shorter reviews seem to be working better for me right now so I think I’ll keep to this style for a while. This game was one of the games I was really anticipating for this year: a spin-off of Moujuutsukai to Ouji-sama (Beastmaster and Prince).
This will be a mostly non-spoiler review, but if I have spoiler thoughts, I’ll say explicitly when they come up.
Original Japanese: バイナリースター
English Translation: Binary Star
Everyone who follows me on twitter is probably really confused that I posted this now since I finished playing it weeks (months?) ago. I actually started playing this around the end of 2014, but things just kept coming up so I didn’t end up getting to finish it until this year because I just kept…taking breaks from it somehow. This happened around 5 times+, which is dumb because I honestly like this game a lot. On top of not playing the game consecutively, I also didn’t write the review right away (bad, bad idea) so it got even more lagged. I was originally going to do a more detailed description of plot but it just didn’t end up happening because I wasn’t focused and now I don’t have the drive or the freshness of the game to do it anymore. Therefore, I decided that it was best to make a shorter post rather than not post something about it at all.
This is mostly a non-spoiler review. I introduce the plot premise but will not go into details about the characters and what happens in the routes/game (although I do give a template the plot generally follows in the first section so if you want no real plot info then just skip the first section).
Original Japanese Title: ピリオドキューブ ～鳥籠のアマデウス～
(Partially) Romanized: Period:Cube ~Torikago no Amadeus~
Translation: Period:Cube ~Amadeus in a Birdcage~
Since my resolution to try to play more of my games and whittle down my black hole backlog, I came up with a new strategy: any time I start a game, I need to play it a little every day until I finish it. This would be to make sure that I not only finish a game, but I also finish it in a more timely manner. It seems to have worked decently well because the game took me about a week and half to play and well..I’m writing this review, aren’t I?
This is going to be a spoiler review but you can skip down to the Non-spoiler section if you want the general commentary about the game as a whole. I didn’t mean to make the plot descriptions as detailed as they came out so for all you guys wanting the read the Non-spoiler part…I’m sorry, you have a lot of scrolling to do.
